Does This Darius Slay Quote Sum Up The Lions Season?

Not sure if we’ve ever heard a Darius Slay quote quite like this under Jim Caldwell. The Lions defense hasn’t been the strength of this year’s team as many thought at the beginning of the season, in fact it has hurt the team more than helped. And to top it off there’s no “help on the way” sort of speak because the trade deadline has come and gone and the took a key player away from the defensive unit (Quandre Diggs) in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks. The quote may be letting on more than what’s being said on the surface…

Darius Slay Quote

“… It’s not even surprising what offenses do to us because we already know what they want to do, and we just ain’t stopping it right now,” cornerback Darius Slay said. “As a group, unit and everything. So we got to find a way to stop it. I don’t know what else we could do.

“We already know what they doing. We still can’t stop it.”

This Darius Slay quote makes us wonder who’s in charge here? Meaning is this a defense organization that’s built on the backs of DBs who are better at playing zone coverages and the Lions coach Patricia want them to only play man defense?  It sounds as if there’s a testing of wills on display and they are watching each other to see who blinks first!

This is either Matt Patricia’s team/defense or it’s the players’ trying to show why playing the style they want to play is the better route to go; either way it seems that we all lose!

This needs to get resolved in a hurry, before mathematically being eliminated becomes a reality and we’re either looking for a new coach and/or GM…or replacing several defensive starters possibly in next year’s NFL free agency and the 2020 NFL draft!

What do you think, does this Darius Slay quote suggest the same thing to you or we’re reading too much into it?
